As many of you know, Houston has been under a severe drought as of the past few weeks, and we desperately need the possible 7-9" of rain that the meteorologists are saying we might get this evening. Prepare yourselves for...

...more videos of dumbasses driving directly into flood water and then going “OMG WTF WHERE DID THIS WATER COME FROM?!?!”

Harris County has already activated their emergency management department. This alone is nothing to be overly concerned about, because I’d say that about 40% of the time this happens, no huge emergencies occur. But only time will tell if we’re in for a long night.

I think I’ll be putting the Caddy in the garage tonight.

Oh yeah, this is the same system that just dumped hail and tornados on Oklahoma.

Currently in Tulsa too. Other than the fact it looks a lot darker outside, I don’t see any rain.

It’s annoying though, my friend and I had finals and were hoping that a tornado warning could postpone them but now there’s just a chance of a night tornado warning instead and I’m an RA on Duty and now it’s just an inconvenience.

That sounds like Houston in the summer, but our days are sun/storms/sun/storms/storms/sun. Every damned day.

My yard dried out, so obviously we need the rain. Duh.

It’s pouring here (central Kansas) and is supposed to continue all weekend.

Mine is absolutely parched. And by “parched”, I mean “it doesn’t have any more large puddles”.

It’ll be raining off and on all weekend here. Some rain isn’t a big deal.

Sudden prolonged deluges are something completely different, though.

I am 100% sure that its going to just normal rain. No crazy flooding, no tornadoes, nothing but normal rain

Yep. We have the opposite problem, our ground is saturated so it all runs off too.

Hopefully. Otherwise, Mayor Turner will have to put off his pothole initiative and concentrate on flood prevention.

Stay dry; I’ll be watching for updates.

In other news, and harkening back to our previous chat about GT Continentals and the like, I just booked a trip to a conference in Brentwood, California, just down the freeway from Beverly Hills and Hollywood. I’ll have a free Sunday to see the sites and I’m going to mount my GoPro in the rental car’s windshield and to trolling. Should be fun.

Bah. They’re calling it off. *turns on sprinklers* ;)

We managed okay. Backyard has two French drain setups, so it drains well.

I think I’ve just missed the sudden pourings of rain. Every time I look out the window, the ground is just as wet but none particularly falling out of the sky.

Dude the lake in front of my house has literally gained a foot in Tulsa since the rain. It’s crazy. Too much rain haha.

I just moved to San Antonio a few months ago and it is my first time living in Texas. I was curious if in Houston there are no sewage systems to prevent flooding like it is here in SA. Every time it rains hard here it boggles my mind how there is no water drains/gutters for the streets here and every intersection practically becomes a lake.

It’s no mystery that it rains hard out here so why not drain the water somehow when they constructed these roads. I don’t know it’s something i’ve been curious about since i moved here because it is absolutely idiotic to me.

All the rivers here are still very high. Water is being released from upstream dams.

Many areas here had 20" of rain in a span of 12 hours. My house had 12". We have a series of bayous that handle the runoff, but when it dumps that much water, there's no handling it.

We’ve got nothing but clouds and some lightning in Austin so far. I was expecting rain by now as things cool down at night, but nothing.

That is completely understandable, i don’t expect any kind of sewage system to handle that much water. But up until the last few weeks of hard rain we’ve been having the water just accumulates alongside the road against the sidewalks in puddles. A lot of times the right most lane i don’t drive in due to the amount of water that’s collected there.
